Code named as the BMC ADO17, the Austin 1800 was also sold as the Morris 1800, the Wolseley 18/85 and later as the Austin 2200 and Wolseley Six. Colloquially known as the "Land crab", the 1800 was voted Europe’s Car of the Year for 1965. The unofficial nickname “Land crab” came about as a journalist commented on how they corner sideways when viewed from a helicopter. Production was from 1964–1975, approximately 221,000 cars were produced. Assembles the United Kingdom and Australia.
