1936 Austin 20 Mayfair Limousine

Of 1647 Austin 20 Mayfair Limousine's made, only 11 are known to still exist. This is one of the 11. This car is named “Monte," by his gracious donor for General Cecil Montgomery of WW II fame. The standard Sedan has a wheelbase of 9.5 ft while the Limo is 11 ft. Adding 3 ft overhang at each end gives a length of 17 ft. The Limo weights 4272lbs. Aluminum panels were used as steel was hard to get during the war. The car has an integral hydraulic four wheel jack system. The engine is a 3400cc flathead side valve 6 cylinder, producing 23.5 hp. It has a speaking tube for orders to be given from the passenger quarters to the chauffeur in front. The Royal Family used these and not the Rolls Royce. they were more reliable and cheaper to operate than the Rolls Royce. An Austin 20 Hearse and a 1935 Austin 20 Mayfair were used in the movie“That’s Your Funeral” in 1972.
